Emmanuel's Events by Roberto Carlos

It is with great disappointment that my husband and I are writing this review. After reading all the wonderful things about Emmanuel’s Events, one would think they are the best wedding planning company Houston has to offer, but we were misled. I met Roberto at the Bridal extravaganza 2 years ago. I was wowed by the professionalism he portrayed and the ornate booth he presented and convinced my fiancé that he was who I wanted to plan my wedding. We signed a contract for the “Day of Coordination” with him February of 2011 the price was $1600. About a month before the wedding, Roberto called me to inform me that one of his assistants would be taking over my wedding. I was a little disappointed that he told me this after we had put down the $500 deposit back in February, which was non-refundable, but I trusted that his assistant would do a good job as well. The week before the wedding, we were to look at the venue and discuss details. Roberto showed up at my parents house with his business partner, which is also his mother, and announced then that she was going to coordinate my day of and that his assistant had gotten sick. I was again surprised about all the changes that I was uninformed about, but I trusted him. As we walked around the venue, he told my fiancé, mother, and myself that he had another event the same night as my wedding, in which the client was having a quinceanera and they had paid him near the sum of $25,000 for decorations and planning and there was even a possibility that a popular MTV show would come and tape it… (Later, I found a picture with Roberto smiling next to a Houston rapper, Paul Wall and the birthday girl the night of my wedding) I quickly realized that this was the event he dropped our wedding for… but, Roberto and his partner were quick to pacify us with some draping to put behind our cake and we accepted, it was the least he could do. Roberto and his business partner showed up at the rehearsal on the Friday night before the wedding and his business partner didn’t seem to know much of how things were to go, Roberto coordinated the walk in and the cueing of the music, I was relieved that he was there, after all I had hired him to coordinate my wedding. We discussed that she (the partner) was to get to the church early to light candles and make sure everyone was putting on their boutonnieres (all stated in our contract). On the day of the wedding, 15 minutes before the wedding was to begin, I receive a phone call from his partner. She tells me that she got lost on her way and she could not find the church. My heart fell into my stomach… I had a church filled with friends and family and the coordinator had not done a single thing to make sure the tasks we had requested were handled. I remember sitting in the bride’s room waiting …then, when the wedding planner arrived, the ceremony began. After the ceremony, everyone left for the reception hall and we took pictures with our bridal party at the church. We then made our way to the reception hall. As we arrived, my new husband came out to the car to inform me that our DJ was not there yet. I asked the planner if the DJ was on his way and she informed me that he was on his way and would be here soon. I waited for 15 minutes. Then I called the DJ. In tears, I explained to him that I had a room filled with guests and no music to entertain them. The groomsmen had to turn on all of the up lights and shut off the hall lights. He told me that Roberto sent him an itinerary with a different time. His time line said 6. Roberto’s said 5. In fact he was not on his way like the partner told me, but barely leaving the bridal extravaganza that had been held that day almost 45 minutes away. I sat in the car waiting 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and after almost an hour and a half, I saw the DJ’s van pulling up. My guests had waited at the venue for almost 2 hours for the reception to begin and as I sat in the car in my wedding dress, make-up and hair done, over $10,000 spent on a wedding my husband and I paid for … I saw several people leaving. I didn’t want to enter the venue because I didn’t want my guests to think something was wrong…but apparently everyone knew. Not only had I felt betrayed by Roberto, but disappointed because my time can never be given back to me… and to make matters worse, the wedding didn’t end until midnight and Roberto’s partner left at 11:30. Our contract clearly stated “coordination of set-up, rehearsal, walk-in and break down.” As she was leaving she informed me that the drapes that she let us borrow would need to be returned to Roberto’s loft downtown. Had she fulfilled the contract and stayed until break-down she could have taken these things herself. Instead, my parents had to tow them home and store them in their garage for 2 weeks. The day after the wedding, I called Roberto and he promised to return half the money we paid and even offered us an all-expense paid 1 year anniversary dinner. But I wasn’t the least bit surprised when his business partner informed me she was taking back the offer and didn’t want to compensate us at all for our troubles, because she had to drive back to my house to pick up the items she let us borrow, and mistakenly left behind some drapes. I am truly hurt that I trusted this company. Although Roberto did send us back almost half our payment, $725, minus the items his partner left behind (3 drapes at $25 dollars each) and reinstated the promised dinner....but I will never have my wedding day back. It is something that my husband and I cannot forget and don’t want it to happen to another couple.

Roberto was awesome! Did such a great job and was a pleasure to work with. His decor was beautiful! Everyone loved it! Our wedding was a hit thanks to Emmanuel's events. Glad I made the choice to go with Roberto Ochoa.

He made the wedding so stressful free. Its the best thing a guy can buy for his future wife. Roberto met all my wife's expectations and more. On the day of our wedding we had the chance to see all the decorations they had talk about and it was beautiful it was our wedding everything was custom made and thats what we loved about it that we came up with the agreement with the suggestion on the decor.I build a friendship with Roberto even though I was just a client. Thank you so much Roberto for all the 9 months of great work and on the day of the wedding you will see Roberto light and be proud of the work he does.

Roberto, everything was beyond our expectations! A few of our guests commented on how spectacular all the decor was and that it was the best they had seen at any wedding they had attended. Of course, that is was Jennifer wanted, something out of the norm. Thanks for all your help, I don't know what we would have done without you. Whatever could have gone wrong was fixed because you found a solution to the problem (for example, flower girl with no flower basket) and made everything fine. Robert was amazing!!! I don't know what I would have done without him! I hired him for the "Day of" package but I really feel that he went above and beyond what was expected of him. Because of him and his services, my wedding was truly the most amazing day of my life! I had some unexpected problems that day, but Robert was right there and I didn't stress out about anything!

I loved how Robert was able to make my wedding dream a reality. I'm so glad we didn't listen to everyone else when they told us not to hire a wedding planner. That was one of the best decisions we could of made. Especially the day of our wedding, if we needed anything Robert would be on top of it. I didn't have my family worried & running around trying to figure out how to resolve any issues etc. We enjoyed ourselves to the MAX & with no worries. We had a great planning experience & would recommend my family & friends to Roberts Events any time.

(I actually left a review earlier,but then discovered that my daughter's wedding date was wrong - I wanted the readers to know that this is a very recent review - her wedding was on 02/19/11).So- once again: By far, the best decision my daughter and I made when we began to plan her wedding was to use Emmanuel's Events! My daughter cast a vision for what she wanted her wedding to be and Robert brought that vision to life. He knows his business, has a vast array of contacts, understands a budget (!), and takes care of all the details. On top of that, he is such fun to work with! I was able to relax and totally enjoy the wedding (really the entire wedding week-end) because I knew Robert was handling everything - not that anything went wrong - it was a wonderful experience to be able to sit back and enjoy the "fruits of our labor" that night. Robert is very prompt in returning phone calls, very easy to work with with, and, when necessary, will let you know if he thinks you are making a choice that might not work with your over-all vision. I know there are many excellent wedding planners in the Houston area, but I promise you there are not any more qualified, more professional, or more fun to work with than Robert and his staff. He tops them all..................Thank you Robert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Robert was very responsive to all the little nit-picky things we asked about -- and we asked about lots of things. He was always available to meet with us to review/discuss changes -- all the way up to the very last minute!

Robert was great! He understood what our visions and wants were and delivered professional services with great quality.

Emmanuel’s Events were so wonderful! I don’t know what my wedding would have been without them. They completely took my vision and transformed it to real life. Emanuel’s’ took care of everything throughout our planning, therefore leaving me stress free. The most important thing was that at our wedding we were able to enjoy our day, because they took care of EVERYTHING….. That’s priceless!
