More Than Cakes

MY vendor had a quick change of cake vendors. So More Than Cake worked with me quickly to give me exactly what I wanted. I was very pleased with the look and taste of the cake. It was wonderful!

I believe it was Barbara that I meet with...More than cakes was a life saver to me. 2 days before my wedding my previous cake vendor fell through so 2 days before my wedding i meet with Barbara explained to her exactly what I wanted and she delivered a cake more beautiful than i could have imagined I am so glad I had the pleasure of meeting with her, my cake was wonderful and tasted amazing. The grooms cake was awesome too! Thanks you so much for saving my special day!

Our cake came out exactly how we wanted it to. The designs were perfect and the flavor was wonderful. The only issue we had was they are slow to respond. They would call us back and schedule appointments with us, it would just take a few messages and emails sent and about a week to get a reply.

Barbara catered to my needs. The cake tasted and looked flawless. Barbara allowed my husband and I for a second tasting. She listened and was able to make my cake a dream come true. Definitely will recommend.

Barbara was so sweet and easy to work with! She did everything we wanted and more! The cake was as delicious as it was beautiful!!

We loved our cake that we got from More than Cakes. Barbara was great to work with. Although they were very hard to get a hold of, she did make sure to call me a week before the wedding to discuss all of the details of the cake, to make sure she had everything right. We had a intricate flower design on the cake which I will admit, wasn't the best, but it looked beautiful, and tasted amazing. The grooms cake came out great as well. Everything was just as we had discussed, so we were very pleased with them. Everyone loved the different flavors of cake that we had, they were so moist and so delicious!

First off, their cake is DELICIOUS! That was an absolute must for me. They did exactly what I wanted them to do, and they pulled it off without a hitch. And the value you get for the money is great...they surprisingly were one of the cheaper places I went, and I can tell you, you would have NO idea that that was the case.

Barbara was very helpful and sweet. The cake turned out better than I imagined and the design was just what I wanted. The flavor (almond cake, Italian buttercream icing with layers of raspberry mousse and lemon chiffon filling) was sooooo good.

More than Cakes did a wonderful job on our wedding and groom's cakes, and they tasted very delicious. They were very patient and understanding of the several changes I made with the wedding cakes. After our tasting with More than Cakes we had a cake tasting else where that offered us different flavors than More than Cakes had offered us. We e-mailed More than Cakes asking if they made Vanilla-Cinnamon (wedding) and Chocolate Forest Cake (groom); they do and we set up another tasting with them just to taste those specific flavors which then became our cake flavors. There was no extra charge to have these special requested flavors made. I'll admit that I was a little apprehensive about how the wedding cake would turn out design-wise. The cake was the one area of the wedding where I stepped outside of my comfort zone and took a original approach (meaning I didn't have the exact image of how I wanted it to look) with how I wanted it decorated. Turns out there was no need to worried. The cake was beautifully decorated and I couldn't have been happier.One thing I was worried about was the actual cake not tasting as good as the sample. No need though, because I think the actual cake tasted better than the samples.One thing that really impressed my husband and me was the fact that for our 1 year anniversary they will re-bake the top tier for us at no additional charge.

We had More Than Cakes make our wedding cake. It was included in the price of our reception, but we were so pleased with the cake. It did end up costing us $400 extra because we chose a fondant cake. Barbara drew a design for our cake and the cake was beautiful! It was exactly what I had anticipated....and also delicious.

More than Cakes was not a pleasant experience for us. Prior to the wedding, they were unresponsive most of the time and when we did get a hold of them, they seemed to be put out like we were bothering them. In fact, we never got to meet the person who made the cake. Instead, we only met the assistant. We explained what we would like and she said no problem. For the bride's cake, we had a monogram with an "S" in it and for the groom's cake, it was supposed to be made of fondant because of the detail work needed. What we got was an "s" that looked like a 5 and the groom's cake was made of buttercream and not fondant. Thus, it looked nothing like what we were promised because they were not able to get the detail needed to make it look good. After the wedding, when we let the owner know about the problem with the "s" and that the groom's cake wasn't even made out of what it was supposed to be made out of, we were told that we were "miserable people" for letting her know what we thought were problems with the cakes. Great customer service! Anyway, I would not recommend this place to anyone and I'm sorry if you are already stuck with them. My advice would be to go to someone else if it's not too late.

I didn't choose More Than Cakes for my cake after the initial tasting. The manager was thoroughly professional and very helpful. I thought that the cake designs looked pretty good-- many, many different designs including the most up-to-date. However, some of the decorations looked "off." The piping was not as perfect as one would want, and the overall designs sometimes lacked an artistic eye. The price was definitely a good bargain for the cake designs, but what made me say "no thanks" was the taste of the cake. Out of 5 flavors, I could only stomach 2, and all of them had a weird, chemical taste. I wanted a beautiful and tasty cake, and although More Than Cake had nice (but not perfect) designs, the taste was not good.

I met with several "cake" vendors in Houston and was told no time after time that they could/would not provide additional dessert services (outside of a wedding cake) for my wedding. I was very happy when I met with Barbara at More than Cakes who said yes to EVERYTHING I asked for.We didn't have the traditional wedding cake at our reception. We had a dessert table (macaroons, brownies, cake balls, cake pops, fruit tarts, sandwich cookies, and a large cupcake tier.) Everything was designed to match my wedding colors (Yellow and white). It was a little difficult planning from Dallas, while they're located in Houston. We communicated via email with photos, descriptions, etc... The response time and confirmation of measurements for the cupcake tier (decor) was a bit slow and frustrating as I had family in Houston providing materials if necessary, etc... Barbara ended up purchasing a white cupcake tier a couple weeks before our wedding- which worked out perfectly! The only negative thing I have to say about their services is that they forgot the 6 inch cake that was to sit on top of the cupcake tier (which we were to cut during our formal cake cutting.) I'm not sure how this got left off (which I had confirmed in several emails), but it did and she's supposed to be sending me an order of macaroons next week to make up for it. (Briscoe Manor (venue) helped provide the 6 inch cake just before our cake cutting- what a save!) I would highly suggest "More than Cakes'" services for desserts, as well as, cakes- just make sure you confirm your order in writing and follow up with a phone call. I think they're pretty busy and have a small staff- which is why responsiveness is slow. Otherwise- great!

Highly dissappointed. The problems with this wedding cake vendor started from the inital consultation. After thoroughly discussing and deciding on the design of the cake, and signing the contract we were later contacted via email that the price was not that we had already agreed to and paid. Even after getting this email, it was difficult to get a hold of Barbara to discuss why the price was different and to try to resolve the sitation. Our initial gut instinct is to just start all over but they were recommended as a "preferred vendor" so we decided to go through with the contract. To our dissappointment, they delivered a wedding cake that looked unfinished and did not follow the wedding cake design we agreed to. Their attention to detail is highly questionable.

The cakes that More Than Cakes provided us were absolutely delicious!! They did a wonderful job and that was one less thing I had to worry about on our special day!

We really liked Barbara but unfortunately she was extremely difficult to get a hold of anyone. The cakes themselves were awesome - they were delicious and delivered on time. We would recommend this vendor but suggest early communication of details, etc.

It is very hard to get a hold of Barbara, and she does not return phone calls. I paid extra for a design that I wanted on my cake, and after the ceremony I found out that the design was not on there. I am not sure why I was not notified that the design would be different than what I asked for, and why I was not called when the cake was delivered. The cake did taste good, but I did not spend that much money for a plain white cake.

Horrible! Nothing about my wedding cakes was what I ordered, paid for, or expected. Both cakes were sloppy and looked amature. I didn't expect this at all from them especially after they showed me pictures of other beautiful cakes they made for far less than the $1700 I spent.They put on icing instead of fondant, they added random flowers all over when I asked for no flowers at all. I asked for a 4 tier cake and they just decided, without telling me, that 3 tiers would be enough. The actual cake tasted okay, it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. Now it gets really bad, I called to confirm the details a week before the wedding and was told they knew what I wanted & were on top of it. They weren't! They demanded extra money for their sad small pathetic cakes at the wedding! They had been paid off for months! I tried to call a few times after the wedding, but they never returned my calls & they dont answer the phone during buisness hours for anyone. Really!

Barbara at More Than Cakes was a preferred vendor of our Caterer/Planner. We had already decided to go with Who Made the Cake - which was very good but expensive - when we decided to try and price More than Cakes. Barbara's price couldn't be beat, but more importantly the cake was the best I've had in my life. I HATE white cake and here I was wishing I could eat the whole darn wedding cake! The amaretto white cake with amaretto buttercream was the most delicious cake ever and we had to fight to get our top layer out safely! We also used Barbara for the grooms cake - which was chocolate upon chocolate - to die for as well. We gave Barbara very little direction and the cakes came out perfect - you can trust her!
